UPDATE: Kentucky & Indiana Bridge ablaze, train cars dragged to shore

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Fire Department and New Albany Fire Department are working a fire on the Kentucky & Indiana Railroad Bridge.

MetroSafe says they were first notified about the fire at 6:05 p.m. Monday and that several railroad ties are on fire.

Neither New Albany nor Louisville officials have given a cause for the fire, but New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan says the fire started on the railroad ties.

Gahan says the westbound train is carrying non-hazardous materials, but a few cars have caught fire.

According to Gahan, crews are having trouble reaching the fire with water streams due to high winds. Gahan says they have cut the train and dragged the burning cars onto the Indiana shore to fight the fire at close range.
