LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies say a Louisville woman made a huge mistake when she tried to walk into the Hall of Justice with a stolen handgun.

The alleged incident happened on Monday, June 30, just after 9:30 p.m.

Authorities say 21-year-old Mikaila Brown walked into the Hall of Justice at the corner of 6th Street and W. Jefferson Street and told deputies she needed to use the restroom. She then placed her backpack on the belt used by sheriff's deputies to x-ray bags and packs.

According to an arrest report, a deputy noticed what appeared to be a firearm in Brown's backpack. When questioned about the discovery, Brown allegedly told the deputy she didn't know anything about it, but she gave the deputy permission to search the bag. The search allegedly uncovered a pink and black Taurus .40 caliber handgun.

Authorities say Brown told them the firearm belonged to her boyfriend -- but on closer examination, it was determined that the gun had been reported stolen on May 3, 2011.

Brown was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon without a permit and receipt of stolen property.
