LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Slugger has been called one of the most patriotic brands in the U.S., and Wednesday, the company helped prove that reputation.

Friends and family gathered in front of the big bat at Louisville Slugger on Main Street in downtown Louisville to watch Gerald Nauert's Coast Guard promotion.

Nauert is a retired Kentucky State Police Captain and a 25-year veteran of the the U.S. Coast Guard. He was promoted from Commander to Captain on Wednesday.

"This is one of the most memorable occasions in my Coast Guard career," said Captain Nauert. "For one thing, attaining the rank of captain in the Coast Guard Reserve is quite an accomplishment for me that I take personally."

Nauert wanted to be promoted at Louisville Slugger because he has been a lifelong fan of baseball and also knows the family behind the business.
