Sunrise Children's Services hopes Hobby Lobby ruling helps its case

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Sunrise Children's Services hopes the Supreme Court's ruling supporting Hobby Lobby's religious rights will help Sunrise make its own case.

A group sued the state of Kentucky over its contracts with Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, now known as Sunrise.

The two sides reached a settlement, saying faith-based groups that contract with the state cannot pressure children to participate in religious services.

Sunrise doesn't like those terms, but says it's forced to accept them to continue to get state money.

A federal judge ruled Sunrise has no legal right to interfere in the settlement, but Sunrise now plans to challenge that ruling.
