Governor of N.C. warns residents not to wear "stupid hats" as Hurricane Arthur approaches

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Pat McCrory, the governor of North Carolina, is issuing a stern warning as Hurricane Arthur gains strength.

"I've mentioned this before to citizens, don't put your stupid hat on," McCrory said. "But I also want to talk to the media. We need the media to help inform you and to inform our citizens, but I don't want the media to pull a Dan Rather on us. You don't need to prove to the citizens that wind is powerful by standing out in the wind on a live shot."

Thousands of vacationers and residents have been evacuated. Curfews are also in place.

Meteorologists say even if Arthur stays off-shore as a weak  Category One hurricane -- that won't diminish the danger.
