LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville police say one person is dead after a road rage incident on Southern Parkway.

Police say the driver of a blue Dodge Challenger was shooting at another driver in a silver Chrysler, which has a handicapped license plate. They say for an unknown reason, the driver of the blue Challenger lost control of the vehicle and died after hitting a tree.

The other driver was not injured, but there are at least four bullet holes in his car.
"Apparently it was some type of road rage," LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.

Surveillance video from Sissy's Liquor on 5th and Evelyn shows the two men involved talking just minutes before the crash.

Witnesses say the driver of a silver Chrysler 300, told the other man that his window tint on his blue Dodge Challenger was too dark. He also claimed he was an undercover officer.

Seconds later, the Challenger drove away and the 300 followed.

"At some point, shots were fired into the Chrysler and the Chrysler was chasing the Dodge," Mitchell explained.

After hearing of Tuesday's crash, Michelle Adams put up a small memorial. "Just something nice to do, you know, just in his memory” Adams said, “it was sad."

Adams says she was praying the whole time she witnessed the incident, "the guy in the blue car was shooting at the silver car. After I started looking, I didn't know what was going on."

Witness Glenn Nall told us, "I couldn't believe it happened I've never seen a car, that was so heavily damaged wrapped around a tree, I mean the tree was up to the windshield."

A man who said he didn't want to be identified said he saw the two cars moving at a high rate of speed, then make u-turns on Southern Parkway at Beechmont, a few blocks away, before ending up on Southern Parkway.

Investigators are trying to figure out where the disagreement began. They confirmed that the Challenger was moving fast, but did not immediately provide other details.

The coroner has not yet released the name of the man who died.
