Jeffersonville Aquatic Center reopens after week-long closure

Posted: Updated:
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The Jeffersonville Aquatic Center -- which has been closed since July 3 -- has passed a second test for contamination, and re-opened to the public today.

The Clark County Health Department shut down the pool after water several water samples tested positive for coliform and E. coli. The pool had three failed samples in six weeks.

Managers blame geese nesting in a retention pond and nearby park for contaminating the water by leaving droppings. Workers at the aquatic center have increased chlorine levels, installed strobe lights, and even added a fake coyote in an effort to scare off the birds and keep the pool clean.

There are no reports of anyone getting sick from the contaminated water.
