LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - It's the first graduation of its kind.
On Wednesday, the Bridges to Opportunity program celebrated its first graduating class of 300 students.
B2O was created as a part of the Ohio River Bridges Project to train minorities and women with the skills and education needed for construction careers. Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear started the program last year.
"The Ohio River Bridges Project will be over in a few years, but those participating in BTO are acquiring skills for a lifetime in the construction industry," said Mike Hancock, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary.
B2O aims to equip graduates with skills for an entire career, not just a single construction project.
