LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kroger employee has been arrested after police say he stole $3,000 from his employer.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, 19-year-old Zachary Stevenson worked at the Kroger on Shelbyville Road near Aiken Road during the time period beginning Jan. 1 and ending July 5.

While employed there, Stevenson would allegedly add fraudulent credits to gift cards, and then purchase other gift cards or food items for himself.

Each fraudulent transaction ranged from $25 to $200, for a total of $3,000 over time.

Police say he admitted to the crimes in a written statement, and explained how he committed them. Kroger also allegedly has surveillance video of Stevenson committing the crimes.

He was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with theft by deception.
