UPDATE: Two dead after crash on Third Street Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two women were killed in a crash in south Louisville Thursday evening.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. on July 10. Police say that's when the driver of a Honda Accord lost control on Old 3rd Street Road and veered off the road into a ditch.

The driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was shut down for several hours while the scene was cleared. Police say it doesn't appear that speed was a factor, but the cause is still under investigation.

Justin Gasper lives nearby and recounted what he saw after the accident.

"We came out as soon as I heard the bang and opened up the passenger side door to make sure she was okay and shortly after police arrived, so I don't know... It's a shame I tell you. It's terrible." Gasper said.

"At this time it doesn't appear as if speed was factor, however what actually caused the accident is still under investigation," LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley said.

Smiley also said the driver was a woman in her 50s and the passenger a woman in her 70s. Their relationship and names have not yet been released.
