Bomb threat forces evacuation of Horseshoe Southern Indiana hotel

Posted: Updated:
ELIZABETH, In. (WDRB) -- A bomb threat to Horseshoe Southern Indiana forced the evacuation of the hotel.

Officials took this threat very seriously. The call came in about 10 p.m. Thursday. But following an investigation, the threat was deemed a hoax.

Several police agencies responded quickly to evacuate guests from the hotel.  The casino remained open. Authorities feel they made the right decisions regarding safety.  Security kept people from coming into the area, and hotel guests were kept in a holding area until the building was checked out.

"In today's culture, you just can't assume or second guess, you have to go along the theory that it is real, that it is a legitimate threat," said Chief Deputy Wayne Kessinger with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, "and you work from that point and try to get it resolved as soon as possible."
During the investigation, officials identified a couple of rooms and some individuals who were involved, but they did not give any details. There is no word on whether any charges will be filed.

Horseshoe Casino has not released a statement to the media about the ordeal.
