LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Law enforcement officers and officials from across Indiana gathered Friday morning to say goodbye to a fallen policeman.
Officer Perry Renn's funeral is taking place at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Renn was shot and killed Saturday night by a man armed with an AK-47 assault rifle.
The 51-year-old police officer was a 22-year veteran of the Indianapolis Police Department. Family members say he was proud to serve his community.
"But he never had any fear, I just don't think...surely to God he had to be scared inside, but he would never show it," said David Renn, Officer Perry Renn's father. "I mean, he would never back down from anything."
After the funeral, a procession will travel 11 miles through the city to Crown Hill Cemetery. Officer Renn will be buried in the cemetery's "Heroes of Public Safety" section.
