LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We now know the names of the two women who died in a single-vehicle crash on Old Third Street Road in Louisville Thursday evening.
It happened around 7:15 p.m. on July 10. Police say that's when the driver of a Honda Accord lost control on Old 3rd Street Road and veered off the road into a ditch.
The coroner has identified the victims as 59-year-old Rita Schafer and 76-year-old Janice Oliver. We're told Schafer was driving the car, and Oliver was her passenger. Both women lived in different homes on Hawthorne Port Drive in Louisville. They were pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries.
Justin Gasper, who lives nearby, says he heard the crash from his home.
"We came out as soon as I heard the bang and opened up the passenger side door to make sure she was okay and shortly after police arrived, so I don't know," Gasper said. "It's a shame I tell you. It's terrible."
LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says it doesn't appear that speed was a factor in the crash.
Another witness we spoke to says the ditches on that road are too deep, and says there have been five wrecks in the same area in two years
