LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect at a bank in western Kentucky.

Police say James Hamm, 67, entered the Planters Bank in Princeton, Kentucky just after it opened Friday morning.

Hamm reportedly walked in with a stocking on his head, carrying a gun and a tool bag.

The Princeton Police Chief just happened to be in the bank, and told Hamm to put down his gun.

Instead, Hamm opened fire, and the chief shot and killed him.

A woman who lives near the bank said, "That was a really scary moment, because I can see the bank from my house. Within minutes the place was surrounded."

The same bank was robbed on Wednesday, but authorities are not sure if the two incidents were connected.

No one else was injured.
