INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A parade of police cars blocked off a strip in an Indianapolis nightlife district where seven people were injured by gunfire a week earlier.
The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1s8eMUT ) at least 30 squad cars, SUVs and unmarked police cars lined up around the Broad Ripple strip just before midnight Friday. Officers lined every corner of the strip while patrons came in and out of the area's bars, clubs and lounges.
Many of the officers had begun their day before noon at funeral services Officer Perry Renn, who was fatally shot in a gunbattle July 5.
Police have said only emergency vehicles and taxis would be allowed past blockades on the street.
City officials say the blockades could be continued every weekend.
