Fire destroys 122-year-old Sheridan building

SHERIDAN, Ind. (AP) - Authorities are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed a 122-year-old building in the central Indiana town of Sheridan.

Capt. Travis Stern of the Sheridan Fire Department says the blaze Saturday night caused the second and third floors of the three-story building to collapse.

WTHR-TV and The Indianapolis Star report firefighters rescued two Sheridan police officers from the building. No injuries were reported.

Businessman Jim Godby says he started Godby Home Furnishings in the building in 1975 and kept it based there for 15 years. Godby said the building was built in 1892.

More recently the building housed a direct mail company.

Sheridan is about 25 miles north of Indianapolis.
