Plan to build controversial tactical training facility in southern Indiana scrubbed -- at least for now

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Plans to build a controversial tactical training facility in southern Indiana have been scrubbed -- at least for now.

The Floyd County Planning Commission tells WDRB that on Monday morning, the owners of property four miles southeast of Lanesville withdrew their request for a conditional use permit to create the gun range.

Some southern Indiana residents were fighting plans for the tactical training facility, and a public hearing on the issue was expected to take place tonight.

The property owners currently use the land as a retreat for friends to shoot guns and ride ATV's.

The proposal would have called for turning the property into an outdoor tactical training facility where local law enforcement would hone their shooting skills.

The Floyd Count Planning Commission is still scheduled meet at 6 p.m. tonight at the Pine View Government Center in New Albany.
