AVON, Ind. (AP) - Police say a 7-year-old boy died after going underwater in a neighborhood retention pond in a western Indianapolis suburb.
Hendricks County sheriff's Lt. Jim Yetter says the boy was with 10- and 6-year-old cousins walking to a neighborhood playground in the town of Avon on Monday when they went wading in the pond to pick lily pads for their mothers.
The 7-year-old boy went underwater and a lifeguard and others from a nearby pool ran to help him after the older boy went for help.
Yetter says CPR was performed on the boy after he was pulled from the water, but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
