LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -LMPD arrested a man they say assaulted a victim and fired a gun into the air.

Kelne Barnett was arrested Monday afternoon in the area of 19th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard, after police say he attempted to steal a moped. Police records also state that Barnett fired a gun into the air.

Police reported to a call of shots fired in the area. A witness reportedly told authorities that Barnett had fired a gun several times. Police say that Barnett had his hands in his pockets and an officer instructed him to remove them from his pockets. Police records indicate that Barnett began to walk backwards slowly and that he then turned around and fled on foot. Police say Barnett ran across a busy street.

A witness reportedly saw Barnett throw the gun over a fence before he too climbed over the fence. A canine unit was dispatched and found the gun in the back of a building on Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Police records say that a bag of marijuana was also located near the gun.

Police say that an officer cut his right hand as he tried to arrest Barnett.

Officers say the incident stemmed from Barnett and another individual assaulting the owner of a blue moped. Barnett and the other suspect allegedly approached the victim and asked to buy the moped. The victim stated that he did not want to sell the moped, and then both suspects allegedly assaulted the victim.

Barnett is facing several charges including carrying a concealed weapon, marijuana possession, assault, attempted robbery, and wanton endangerment.
