LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- La Grange Police say they've arrested a man and a woman after they were found with stolen merchandise -- and two small boys -- in the parking lot of a convenience store.

It happened at the Circle K. store on N. 1st Street in La Grange, Kentucky. Police say that at 4 a.m. on Monday, they received a call from someone at the store who said that a man and a woman with two small boys were possibly shoplifting inside the Circle K.

By the time officers arrived, the caller told them that the people in question had already walked out of the store and gotten into a dark-colored passenger car inside the lot.

Police found a car containing Shannon Mitchell and two boys.

One of the boys allegedly told the officer that a man -- Jimmy Mitchell -- had jumped out of the car and ran behind the store. Police say they found him on the north side of the building, under the influence of a controlled substance. He also allegedly had stolen merchandise on his person.

Police say Shannon Mitchell had a stolen candy display -- with multiple items of product in it -- on her lap in the car.

Both Shannon and Jimmy Mitchell were arrested and charged with -- among other things -- receipt of stolen property and endangering the welfare of a minor. They are currently being held in the Oldham County Detention Center.
