LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Home Depot is getting into the 3-D Printer business.

Dozens of stores in California, Illinois and New York are now selling Makerbot printers as part of a pilot program.

3-D printers use electronic documents to mold plastics in to shapes, creating objects from small sculptures to auto parts.

Participating Home depot stores will have a person showing how they work, and printing small keepsakes for customers.

Home Depot has also had the printers on its website for a few months.

But this is the first time a major retailer has sold a line of 3-D printers in store.
