FRANKLIN, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two people are dead following a shooting at a rest area in southern Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police say it happened about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Welcome Center on I-65 in Franklin. Police say investigators have determined that the shooter walked up to a vehicle parked at the rest area and opened fire before turning the gun on himself.

Forty-year-old Jamie Plymel of Spring Hill, Tennessee was killed. The shooter has been identified as 39-year-old James Roames.

Police say it appears the shooting was random because they haven't found a connection between Plymel and Roames.

The investigation is ongoing.
