LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A Lafayette police detective says he's turned over to prosecutors the investigation report into the death of an 88-year-old man whose body remained in his home for nine months before it was reported in May.
Detective Lt. John Withers tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/1n9PVhK ) that he submitted the report to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday after receiving the final financial record he had requested.
It will be up to prosecutors to decide whether any charges will be filed in the death of Gerald Gavan.
The county coroner says a forensic entomologist determined Gavan had been dead since at least last July. Police found his body May 3 on his living room floor.
Ila Solomon says her husband of two years didn't die until April 28.
