LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Investigators in Breckinridge County are searching for the person or persons responsible for breaking into Army Veteran Ron Hinkle's home on Monday. Hinkle’s Purple Heart and Bronze Star were stolen in the break-in.

Hinkle's wife tells us he did a tour in Iraq, survived a bomb blast and retired two years ago.

Electronics and guns were also taken during the break-in, home along with Hinkle's priceless medals.

"It's close to your heart," Breckinridge County Sheriff Todd Pate said. "It makes you very frustrated and really somewhat angry that someone would take these items. You know, he fought for our country and for our freedom.”

We're told a coin Hinkle received from Vice President Cheney was also stolen.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the Breckinridge County tip line at 270-580-8477.
