CRAWFORD | SEC Media picks UK last in East Division

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WDRB) -- Mark Stoops has the University of Kentucky football program climbing to unprecedented heights in various recruiting rankings.

But the media members who cover Southeastern Conference football don't expect that to have much impact on the coming season.

The Wildcats were picked to finish last in the SEC's Eastern Division, even behind a Vanderbilt program rebuilding after the loss of coach James Franklin. And it wasn't really close. UK picked up 395 points in media voting, Vanderbilt had 619.

Alabama (154 points in the balloting) is the pick to win the league, followed by Auburn (75), South Carolina (32), Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Mississippi State.

The divisional predicted order of finish:

Eastern Division: South Carolina (1895), Georgia (1777), Florida (1362), Missouri (1263), Tennessee (893), Vanderbilt (619), Kentucky (395).

Western Division: Alabama (1915), Auburn (1735), LSU (1453), Ole Miss (1069), Mississippi State (890), Texas A&M (791), Arkansas (351).

There's good reason not to get too worked up about media voting in the SEC. The media have picked the correct conference champion only four times in 22 years.

UK's Bud Dupree was the only Wildcat among the preseason All-SEC selections by the media. A look at those teams below:
