Gov. Beshear orders spending cuts in wake of budget shortfall

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Governor Steve Beshear addressed a $91 million budget shortfall Wednesday.

Beshear ordered a $3,000,000 cut in state spending. He made up the rest by transferring money from other sources, including more than $21 million from the state's reserves.

Beshear's order also dealt with a $22 million shortfall in the state's road fund, with cuts to construction projects.

Kentucky's budget is $9.5 billion. State officials said they had few options to make up the deficit because of the fiscal year ending.
