Planners seek downtown Indianapolis event ideas

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Organizers are seeking suggestions for new activities and events that will draw more people to Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

City officials will use $400,000 in grants and city money to pay for events around the circle next year and they are hoping it gives them good ideas for a planned redesign of the space around the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

City spokeswoman Gail Payne tells The Indianapolis Star ( ) that organizers will encourage suggestions from businesses and groups located around Monument Circle, such as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

The city plans in the next few years to overhaul the circle, with work including new utility systems, lighting, curbs, streets and gutters.

Officials want the space to be adaptable as an outdoor events venue.
