Mayor Fischer optimistic about future of GE's Appliance Park

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer hopes Appliance Park will continue to add new jobs in Louisville no matter who owns it.

Bloomberg News reported that GE is in talks to sell its appliance business. For the time being, Fischer says, there's nothing the city or the state can do.

"These are large, multi-national corporations making their moves. All we can do is a good job everyday in terms of providing a workforce. The people that work there need to work hard everyday and put out a good, quality product, and as long as they do that, the future usually takes care of itself, regardless of who the owner is," he said.

Fischer said he has spoken with GE, but any comment on its future at Appliance Park must come from the company.

Approximately 6,000 people now work at Appliance Park.
