Murder in rural Oldham County has community on edge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A pool of blood discovered in a driveway in a rural neighborhood where crime is rare has an entire community on edge.

The body of Adam Gregg was found Thursday night near a pool of blood at the end of a long, gravel driveway at a farm off U.S. 42.

Charrisa Shea's family owns the farm and says her family is sad and overwhelmed. Her mother, Carolyn Davis, noticed the blood last night as she was leaving home. At first, she did not suspect foul play.

"She thought maybe an animal was injured. We have deer and coyotes. There's dogs and cats that roam around our farm," she said.

But later, Davis discovered the body partially hidden in underbrush.

"We're all just in a state of shock today. This is our family farm, and it's just always been a place of peace and safety for us. This kind of stuff just doesn't happen here," said Shea.

Ray and Debe Cook own Back Woods Foods, and live next door - about a quarter-mile from the crime scene.

Ray says it's a scary situation. Violent crime is rare here, and everyone is on edge.

"We don't even have a lot of speeding tickets and stuff through here, really. But then, to have someone who's been killed 600 yards or so from our place is pretty upsetting," said Ray.

"We trust everybody, but now I'm going to stop and think who's coming through that door," added Debe. The Cooks say they're taking extra precautions.

"It's just going to make us be more careful about locking our doors and stuff like that. Because usually, we usually go away and leave the back door open here," said Ray.

"And I'm also going to consider getting my carry and concealed," Debe laughed.

Shea says it will take time for her family to recover.

"We all have a strong faith, so we know God is good in all circumstances. We'll just all pull together and be here for one another."

People who live and work around here hope police can solve this crime quickly, so they can breathe a bit easier.
