Indiana town trying to set world record

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The clock is ticking for an Indiana town's quest to break a world record.

The 4H Fair in Elkhart, located in northern Indiana, just south of the Michigan border, is trying to collect more than 560,000 pounds of non-perishable food in a single day.

The event kicked off Sunday afternoon and ends early Monday afternoon

Hundreds of volunteers rushed in to lend a helping hand, and the help was needed when an entire high school football team came by with donations.

"I cannot walk anywhere on this fairgrounds, without somebody talking to me about the food drive, trying to give me food, trying to give me a cash donation. The response just has been wonderful," said one of the event's organizers.

All collected food will be donated to the county food bank.
