LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man and woman are taken to the hospital after a late night fire in southwest Jefferson County.
The blaze started in the stairwell of an apartment building off Cane Run Road on Shanks Lane. When Louisville Fire & Rescue crews arrived about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, they found two people trapped in a second floor apartment. They were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
With the summer heat, firefighters are having to take extra precautions to protect themselves as well. Lake Dreamland Fire Chief Fred George said they have been rotating crews to keep them ready for additional runs.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
