New study says phone "distractions" may increase productivity

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Do you think smartphones are a distraction in the work place? You might want to think again.

According to researchers at Kansas State University, playing on your phone at work helps make you more productive.

They found smartphone microbreaks -- which is hopping on Facebook, texting or playing a quick game of Candy Crush -- makes workers happier at the end of the work day.

The key: breaks should be taken in short spurts for just one or two minutes, several times a day.

Researchers say microbreaks also increase productivity because workers are more refreshed and less stressed when they can take that quick break during the day.
