LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosted an informal public meeting Thursday night regarding reconstruction of the interchange at the Watterson Expressway and U.S. 42.

More than 200 people who live, work or drive near the area attended the meeting, which informed residents of three potential reconstruction alternatives to improve traffic flow and safety in the area.

The project also includes widening I-264 to three lanes in each direction between Westport Road and Interstate 71.

Some residents shared their concerns over the proposal Thursday.

"There's no sound prevention barrier being added on our side of the Watterson. That would be the side facing Panera Bread and Fresh Market. We live just a block past that and we already have too much noise," said resident Jim Cox.

Input received at the meeting will be used to make future project decisions.

"We want the input of the community, the people who live here, travel through it each day, work in the area. It's important because we like to look at this as publicly owned projects," said Andrea Clifford, KYTC.

Final plans will be made next year with construction set to start in 2018.
