LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Fans have been standing in line to purchase the Louisville Cardinals commemorative Maker's Mark bottle.

The bottle, featuring an image of U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich on one side and highlights of his career on the other side, went on sale at 9 a.m. Friday. The retail price is about $50.

Sales of the bottles will benefit the U of L Academic Center for Excellence to be built on the school's campus. Customers stood in line for more than an hour at the Fern Creek party store to buy the collector's item.

Richard Haag bought a bottle for his son.

"It's the first time I've seen a bottle with the black wax around it, but it'll be a bottle people will be proud to collect and put on the mantle," Haag said.

According to Senior Associate Athletic Director Kenny Klein, Jurich will be on hand to sign the bottles next week, along with Maker's Mark Chief Operating Officer Rob Samuels, Maker's Mark Chairman Emeritus Bill Samuels, Jr. and Master Distiller Greg Davis.

Each ticket will sell for $1, and will allow the bearer to have one bottle signed. Only the person who purchased the ticket will be admitted to the event. Bottles must be purchased at a retail outlet prior to the signing -- there will be no bottles for sale at the event. A total of 700 tickets will be sold online on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30.

Participants must be at least 21 years of age to attend the signing. Only the 2014 Jurich commemorative bottles will be signed.

The bottle-signing will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center main lobby. Previously purchased tickets will be available to be picked up at the KFC Yum! Center main front lobby beginning at 4 p.m.
