LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In the first weekend alone, 30,000-40,000 people are expected at the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, and there's a lot of work being done to make sure everything is ready, and that there's enough places to park.
The finishing touches are underway at the Outlet Shoppes, where more than 90 stores and restaurants will soon be open to the public.
“Everyone's getting really excited. I think the stores kinda build excitement off each other, getting everything finished,” said Lucy George, Marketing Director for the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass.
The stores are being stocked and there's a steady stream of traffic heading in to the parking lot.
From employees to construction workers to curious shoppers, the steady stream of traffic is an indicator of what's to soon come.
With so many people expected when the stores open, officials say there will be additional parking across from the shops, and nearby at the Shelby County Flea Market.
“We're gonna have off-site parking available and shuttles available to the customers to try to get as many people on the property and in as out as easy as possible,” said Lucy George.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials will also have their work cut out for them. They know there's going to be delays at the Simpsonville exit off of I-64, and have been working with Kentucky State Police and local law enforcement to come up with solutions.
“We're actually gonna have staff on hand all weekend to adjust the signal timings when necessary. We may have to give more green time to one leg of the intersection or some of the ramps,” said Andrea Clifford with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
There’s already repairs to be made turning into the Shoppes off KY 1848. Officials say semi-drivers have been making the turn too tight and driving over the edge of a sidewalk, causing it to crumble.
Officials will replace this at some point after the shopping frenzy has calmed down, and this nearby median will also see a change.
“We're gonna take a portion of the end of that off to give a little wider turn area,” said Clifford.
For now, the countdown is on for the shops to finally open. The date is set for July 31st at 10 a.m.
