LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Eminence fire officials say three firefighters were hurt while battling a blaze on Main Street early Sunday morning.

Chief Gary Lucas tells WDRB News the firefighters fell off a ladder when smoke blew out a building window. He says they only had minor injures and were not taken to the hospital.

Crews were called to a structure fire in the 5000 block of Main Street in Eminence, Ky. at around 12:30 a.m. Lucas says the fire quickly spread from one building to another. All residents living in the second floor apartments got out safely, he said.

While crews were able to knock down the fire after about an hour, Lucas says it kept coming back. More than 75 firefighters from the area were on the scene throughout the night. Lucas says the two buildings are a total loss.

Lucas says five families have been displaced and at least one business destroyed. The Red Cross was on the scene Sunday to assist people who lost their home.
