School Smarts: Keys to success for getting children ready to learn
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's important for parents to help children get the school year off on the right foot. Kosair Children's Hospital child advocate Therese Sirles, R. N. has the basic components to give your kids success for the school day.
Sirles says it's important to children get a proper night's sleep and a good breakfast. She also stresses the importance of being organized, so everyone gets out the door. That may mean getting everything together the night before.
Time management is important for both parent and child. Sirles says the biggest key is for families not to over schedule. Balancing time for homework and activities is tough. But parents may also need to remind themselves to show an interest in what's going on in your child's life. An open communication can build a stronger relationship and a better learning environment at home and at school.
