Group presents check to Gov. Beshear for Kentucky National Guard Memorial

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A check for $208,000 was presented to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear on Monday for a Kentucky National Guard Memorial.

Walmart employees from stores across the Commonwealth came together to raise some of the funds needed for construction of the memorial.

It
took four years to raise the funds. The group's original goal was $100,000, but they more than doubled that amount.

Since September 11, 2001, 18 Kentucky National Guard soldiers have given their lives in the line of duty.

"This memorial will serve as a symbol that Kentuckians will not be forgotten, none of guardsmen will be forgotten, now or even those in years to come," said Major General Edward Tonini.

The National Guard broke ground on the site on Memorial Day. It will be located outside the Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort
