Construction begins on LED lighting for Big Four Bridge

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Big Four Bridge is about to get lit.

Construction has begun on the special lighting for the Big Four Bridge, according to a news release from the Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation. The project will involve the installation of more than 1,500 LED fixtures along the length of the bridge. The majority of construction will take place during the day on weekdays, though some weekend work may be necessary.

Installation of the lighting is expected to be completed by mid-January 2015.

During construction, sections of the walkway between the bridge structure and the center of the deck will be blocked off. Officials say through access will always be available, though they note that it may be "constricted at times" and there may be bottlenecks during periods of high usage.

"Cyclists and pedestrians should be prepared to slow down and be considerate of others by being aware of those around them," the release states. "Please share the bridge!"
