Police looking for suspects in latest fast food robbery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Metro Police are asking for help identifying suspects in the robbery of a McDonald’s early Tuesday morning on South Hurstbourne Parkway.

Police say six fast food stores have been robbed this month and they believe at least four of them are connected.

Louisville Metro Police are investigating the holdup that happened just before 3 a.m. Spokesman Dwight Mitchell says the two men went into the restaurant with their faces covered and fired a shot into the ceiling. A few employees were inside, but there were no customers.

During the robbery, one employee was struck with a gun. That employee was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The two robbers were able to getaway on foot, but police don't know which direction they ran. Detectives are still determining what the robbers managed to steal.

"They're very violent," said Sgt. Eric Black of LMPD's Robbery Unit. "It's not too often in an armed robbery someone shoots off a round and strikes people during a holdup. It's senseless. It's needless."

K-9 units have been searching the area for clues. But Mitchell says this robbery is "absolutely similar" to recent fast food hold ups.

This is the sixth time a fast food restaurant has been robbed at gunpoint since mid-July. Two armed men disguised in masks and bandannas robbed the Dairy Queen in Middletown on July 16. On July 23, armed men robbed a McDonald's on Preston Highway near Indian Trail, and on July 25, the Hardee's on Taylorsville Road in Jefferson-town was robbed.

McDonalds released a statement that reads in part:

"The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority, and we are grateful that no one was injured during these acts of violence in our community. These series of events are alarming and we are working with the authorities in support of their on-going investigation."

The owner of the Dairy Queen in Middletown told WDRB the recent robberies are unnerving for his company and the community.
