LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they responded to a shooting that took place in west Louisville Wednesday afternoon.

According to Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell, officers were called to the corner of W. Broadway and S. 31st St., at approximately 12:30 p.m. after they received a report of a robbery and shooting. Police believe a woman was getting off a Tarc bus with a child in a stroller at that location, when a black male, 5'-5" tall, weighing 165 lbs. and wearing a black t-shirt and camouflage shorts tried to grab the woman's purse.

Police say the two struggled, and the man fired a shot at the woman, hitting her in her abdomen. He then took the purse and ran away in an unknown direction. The woman was taken to University Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The child was released to family members.
