Floyd County students hit the books for first day of school

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- Students at New Albany Floyd County Consolidated Schools are back in classrooms today for the first day of school.

Three middle schools, nine elementary schools and two high schools got off to a great start. Nearly 12,000 students made their way to class with new back packs and supplies ready for the new year.

Scribner Middle School welcomed more than 800 of those students.

"We know that this day is the most important day of the school year," said Keith Bush, the principal of Scribner Elementary School. "It's time to get the kids' attention and that they are here to learn."

At the end of the day, the same 124 buses will take kids home.

The New Albany Floyd County transportation director wants parents to be patient these first couple of days as everyone falls into the new routine.
