LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Starting today, you'll pay a little bit more for hotel rooms in Louisville.

A one percent tax increase on hotel rooms in Jefferson County goes into effect today, making the total hotel room tax in the county is at 9.5 percent. The higher hotel room costs will raise money to help fund a renovation and expansion at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Those renovations will cost $180 million.

The tax increase will cover just over $40 million of the project.
