LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A group in Indiana is seeking to normalize breast feeding in public.
The Women, Infants and Children Programs of Clark and Floyd counties held a breastfeeding celebration Friday to promote that mission. Moms and their families came to Luther Warder Park in Indiana to enjoy free food, activities for the kids, and to unite over a common issue.
For some moms, WIC and events like this helped them during tough motherhood moments.
"I'd be at a family gathering, or at church and I would go hide," said Leah Lochard, a mother and member of WIC. "I felt like I was doing something wrong and breast feeding is absolutely not doing something wrong."
August is World Breastfeeding Month.
WIC will continue to hold events throughout the month. Year round, WIC offices offer support for breastfeeding moms and a peer counseling program.
