PGA Championship Shops open for the first time Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The public is now able to buy PGA Championship gear even if they won't have a ticket to the actual event.

The 38,000 square foot PGA Championship Shops opened to the public on Saturday for the very first time.

“It's a little overwhelming, you don't know which way to go," said one shopper.

Inside, golf fans will find all types of merchandise. Even those who aren’t big followers of the sport can pick up a few items too.

"The golf shirt, golf shorts, you name it but we have just as much for the non-golfer; t-shirts, sweatshirts, great things for the summer and the fall," said Michael Quirk with PGA America.

The tent is the only location where you can buy official PGA Championship gear. They have everything from monogrammed hats to golf balls that you cannot find anywhere else.

"Hopefully we’re going to sell 70,000 hats next week, 40,000 shirts, 25,000 t-shirts and 10,000 golf towels. Those are some of our highest volume items," said Quirk.

You don't need a ticket to get in this weekend and there's free parking. Shoppers seem to love the experience.

"My son and I came out were coming out a couple days probably two or three days during the week, but instead of hauling bags around during the tournament we figured we'd come out now it's easier," said Jodie Doyle of Jeffersontown.

"Right now we're getting a couple of hats, we're gonna get those monogrammed and we're probably gonna get a couple of shirts and then head out for the afternoon,” said Adam Dozier who visited with his family.

You can also check out the Wanamaker Trophy, which is the same one the winner will hold up next Sunday.

"And that is also a no charge and that's once in a lifetime experience,” said Quirk.

The PGA Championship Shops are open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Former U of L player Peyton Siva, who just signed with Orlando Magic, will be there signing autograph from 1PM to 3PM Sunday afternoon.
