Mt. Eden Volunteer Fire Department destroyed by fire

MT. EDEN, Ky. (WDRB) -- Mt. Eden Fire Department in Spencer County, Ky. burned to the ground Tuesday morning.

Firefighters in Mt. Eden say this is the unthinkable: their own fire house went up in flames.

Firefighters from the Mt. Eden Volunteer Fire Department say they were dispatched to their own fire at their very own fire house at around 5 a.m. The entire fire house was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived.

They were assisted by about 50 firefighters this morning from Shelby and Spencer counties, as well as Simpsonville. Some of that assistance came in the form of water provision, since the department’s water supply system was destroyed.

They lost four fire trucks in the fire, as well as gear and equipment. Preliminary estimates place the total value of the loss at well over $1 million.

For now, all fire calls in the Mt. Eden area will be dispatched to Shelby, Anderson and Spencer counties.
