LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is behind bars after police say he assaulted his girlfriend while he was drunk.

The incident happened at a house in the 6800 block of Green Manor Drive, in the Fern Creek area.

Police say 49-year-old Christopher Vancleave had been drinking when he asked his girlfriend to go to the store. According to arrest reports, when she refused, Vancleave took her debit card. Police say that led to an altercation between the two, and say Vancleave tried to strangle the victim.

Police documents say the victim ran to a neighbor's house, but Vancleave continued to threaten her and shout expletives at her.

When officers arrived, they arrested Vancleave and charged him with wanton endangerment, fourth degree assault and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
