UPDATE: Man surrenders peacefully after brief police standoff in south Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD says a suspect surrendered to police after a brief standoff Wednesday afternoon.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says officers are investigating what exactly happened and how many shots were fired.  

The situation began with reports of shots fired around 2 p.m. on Claudia Drive near Shepherdsville Road.

Police are responding to a home in the 8500 block of Claudia Drive in south Louisville.

WDRB has learned a man is holed up inside a home and that he fired shots inside the home. The man is believed to be armed with an automatic weapon

There were reports of shots fired at around 2 p.m.

Residents who live near where the shots were fired told to leave their homes.

The SWAT team and Bomb Squad arrived at the scene around 3 p.m.

Multiple streets have been blocked off in the surrounding area.

Authorities say they do not believe anyone else is in the home with the man.
