LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Goodyear's Florida-based blimp, Spirit of Innovation, makes Louisville's Bowman Field home during the PGA Championship.

The nearly 200 foot long airship conducted invitation only rides and will provide HD aerial views of the Thursday and Friday rounds from Valhalla Golf Club.

It took the 20 person crew 4 days to get here from Pompano Beach, Florida with a top speed around 45 miles per hour. The 22 foot gondola can hold 6 passengers plus the pilot.

The polyester neoprene envelope holds helium to make the airship lighter than air and it supports more than 82 thousand LED bulbs to created special messages.

Once the envelope is filled with helium it stays inflated until it is decommissioned.

The Spirit of Innovation is one of 3 iconic flying machines based around the country: California, Florida and Ohio.  A new semi-rigid airship will be christened on August 23rd in Akron Ohio, the company headquarters.

Goodyear Blimps have taken to the skies since 1920.
