Snowden allowed 3 more years of residency in Russia

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three more years -- that's how long Edward Snowden will be allowed to stay in Russia.

The NSA whistleblower's attorney say his client has been granted residency for three years, but Snowden was not granted political asylum.

Snowden fled the U.S. after leaking documents about the National Security Agency's surveillance programs, programs that included tapping phones.

U.S. officials have charged Snowden with espionage and theft of government property.
